The ISU World Development Trophy for Short Track Speed Skating is an annual event organised by the International Skating Union (ISU) and is hosted by a variety of other skating unions around the world. The main initiative of this annual event is to allow "young skaters to participate in the training and experience the atmosphere of an official international competition".〔"HKSU." HKSU. Web. 27 Apr. 2014. .〕 More than 40 skaters from a variety of different countries such as Argentina, South Africa, North Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, India, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Singapore participated in the first event. The age categories, regulations and distances were hosted under ISU guidelines. The Trophy is the first ISU event series to feature skaters under the age of 14. Distances include 500m, 1000m and 2000m relays for respective age categories. Other ISU world Development Trophy's are also annually hosted for Speed Skating and Figure Skating.〔"HKSU." HKSU.
